Ex-Chetham’s violin teacher accused of sex abuse kills himself as police try to arrest him

A former violin teacher facing extradition back to Britain over sex abuse charges has been found dead at his US home.

Christopher Ling was accused of molesting girls at Chetham’s School of Music in Manchester in the 1980s.

The 56-year-old is believed to have shot himself dead as police tried to arrest him on Tuesday morning, the Manchester Evening News reported.

US marshals were in Mr Ling’s home in Sherman Oaks, Los Angeles, at 6am about to serve a warrant on him when gunshots rang out.

They found him dead in his bedroom with what appeared to be self-inflicted gun-shot wounds.

Local media reports he had been running a talent company in LA.

In January 2014, it was revealed that Greater Manchester Police had submitted a file of evidence to the Crown Prosecution Service in a bid to get the former Chetham’s teacher extradited from the US.
